Clean Carbon

Utilisation

Anthropogenic carbon emissions exceed 40 Gigatonnes annually, mostly due to fossil fuel use. The oil industry alone, consumes about 1000 barrels per second. To mitigate detrimental effects, we must create carbon dioxide processing technologies/industries that are ten times larger in scale than the entire global petrochemical infrastructure and we need to build them in less than 30 years to avoid catastrophic climate change. Our Clean Carbon researchers look at carbon differently; rather than view emissions as environmentally harmful waste, we seek ways to utilise carbon in the production of chemicals. Our research programme targets the ultimate high value product - the photosynthetic and thermochemical catalytic conversion of carbon dioxide and water to renewable hydrocarbon fuel.
