The Poetics of Globalisation and Disability Event

This open-ended workshop will explore issues around disability, globalisation, gender and the cultural work of poetry and fiction. Our conversation with Michael Davidson will start with two recent essays of his, ‘The Rage of Caliban: Missing Bodies in Modernist Aesthetics', and an essay on globalisation in recent writing. Participants are encouraged to bring along their own questions and topics. Staff, postgraduates and undergraduates are all welcome.

Michael Davidson is a well-known cultural theorist, a specialist in disability issues, a literary critic, and a poet. He is the author of the major work Concerto for the Left Hand: Disability and the Defamiliar Body (2008) which discusses the treatment of disability in film noir, visual art, cultural politics, and poetry. His other books include The San Francisco Renaissance, and his study of masculinity in modern poetry, Guys Like Us. His latest book On the Outskirts of Form: Practicing Cultural Poetics ‘places modern and contemporary poetics in a cultural context to reconsider the role of cultural studies and globalization in poetry'.
