Published: 25 August 2009

John McGavin has been awarded the 2009 Frank Watson Book Prize in Scottish History for his monograph, Theatricality and Narrative in Medieval and Early-Modern Scotland (Aldershot: Ashgate, 2007).

The chair of the judging committee commented that 'The competition was particularly strong this year but the Committee was most impressed with the insight and originality of [the] thesis and its resonance for the discipline.'

The Frank Watson book prize is awarded by the Centre for Scottish Studies at the University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada, for the best book published in Scottish history over the preceding two years. John will be giving a lecture to their 2009 Scottish Studies Colloquium in September.
