Published: 25 August 2009

John McGavin has been awarded the 2009 Frank Watson Book Prize in Scottish History for his monograph, Theatricality and Narrative in Medieval and Early-Modern Scotland (Aldershot: Ashgate, 2007).

The chair of the judging committee commented that 'The competition was particularly strong this year but the Committee was most impressed with the insight and originality of [the] thesis and its resonance for the discipline.'

The Frank Watson book prize is awarded by the Centre for Scottish Studies at the University of Guelph , Ontario, Canada, for the best book published in Scottish history over the preceding two years. John will be giving a lecture to their 2009 Scottish Studies Colloquium in September.
