Strong hold: Castles and the Culture of Nation Building Event

This is the last in our series of events connected with Southampton City Art Gallery’s ‘Capture the Castle’ exhibition. It will explore the ways in which castles and castellated spaces have been used, and reinvented in order to contribute to narratives of nation building, and of gender, often in surprising ways. It will also offer the opportunity of touring the exhibition in the company of the curators. Speakers include Matthew Johnson, Chair of Anthropology, Northwestern University, US, and Cheryl Butler, Southampton Records Series.
