Event details
The Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Culture invites applications from second and final year PhD students, and recent postdocs to take part in the 2013 Reuter Masterclass.
The Masterclass will precede the 2013 Reuter Lecture, to be given by Barbara Yorke, Professor Emerita, University of Winchester, and will be led by her. Professor Yorke's topic ‘ "No History, Only Biography": Recreating the Past through Biographies of People, Places, and Things' will include an interdisciplinary study of the life of King Alfred.
Participants in the masterclass may come from any disciplinary background, and will present 20 minute papers comprising biographical studies relating to people, places, and/or objects from the early medieval period through to 1700. They should demonstrate a nuanced understanding of the value, potential, and perhaps limitations of their chosen form of biography. A prize will be awarded.
Please send a brief biography (max 100 words), with a title and an abstract for your proposed paper (max 250 words) to Professor Ros King by 15 April 2013.
