In partnership with the Grosvenor Museum and other agencies in Chester and the North West, this project shares new research on the medieval city in creative and innovative ways, making contributions to local communities, culture and tourism.
Funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, with Professor Catherine Clarke as the leading ‘Knowledge Transfer Fellow', this project shares new research on the medieval city in creative and innovative ways. With knowledge exchange and public engagement at its centre, this is a major, cross-institutional project, including a core partnership with the Grosvenor Museum, Chester, as well as other agencies in the North West.
The project builds on the recent AHRC-funded ‘Mapping Medieval Chester' research, led by Professor Clarke, which explored place and identity in the medieval city through visual and textual ‘ mappings '. ‘Discover Medieval Chester' will produce a range of outputs including an exhibition at the Grosvenor Museum, Chester (later transferring to Wrexham Museum), a new website with an interactive map, multi-media resources and the facility to design and share customised tours of the city, and a new permanent public art installation at St John's ruins, Chester, in collaboration with the artist Nayan Kulkarni. The project culminates with a major conference at Southampton in summer 2013 on ‘Knowledge Exchange and Arts and Humanities Research', which discusses how public engagement, ‘impact' activities and practice-led approaches can transform the ways we disseminate - and approach - academic research.
