Dr Michael Grant joins COARS

We are delighted to announce that Dr Michael Grant as a new member of COARS.

Michael originally joined Southampton as an undergraduate studying Oceanography in 1998 before deciding to specialise in environmental archaeology, undertaking a MSc in Geoarchaeology at Reading and PhD in palaeoecology at Southampton. He joins COARS after having worked for the previous five years at Wessex Archaeology, bringing with him considerable knowledge and expertise in the field of commercial archaeology. During this time Michael played a key role in the delivery of several major terrestrial and marine infrastructure projects including High Speed 1, A46 Newark to Windmerpool Improvements, London Olympic Park and several major proposed offshore windfarm developments. Michael's key specialisms lie in environmental archaeology, geoarchaeology and geochronology, with a particular focus upon coastal processes and vegetation history. The addition of Michael compliments COARS staff and broadens its specialist capabilities.

Michael will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of existent, and new, marine archaeology consultancy and research projects for the benefit of commercial partners, ensuring that projects are delivered to his widely recognised high quality standards and delivery frameworks.
