Jubilee Extension

In November of 2021, the University announced an exciting £40 million investment into the provision of sports and wellbeing, beginning with the extension of our current Jubilee Sports Centre.

Following consultation, the new extension will house five new sports studios including a dedicated martial arts space and indoor cycling studio. The facility will also have speed climbing and top rope climbing to add to our current bouldering provision.

This extension plays an integral part in the delivery of the University’s Sport Strategic plan.

Since the ground-breaking ceremony in October 2022 significant progress has been made on site, the foundations have been laid and the core structural components have been established. We are delighted to share a timelapse video of the work thus far.

As with all our projects across our estate, it is important that the University’s core values are embedded within our work. Our mission is to make sport and wellbeing accessible to everyone, and we are proud that this is reflected in this project. We are moving to prioritise participation in sports, fitness, and general movement, removing wide-ranging barriers along the way.

To help meet this goal we involved key stakeholders during the planning stages of the project, as a result our new gym will be equipped with state-of-the-art TechnoGym machinery, which will enhance overall experience for all users. The gym will include the provision of IFI (Inclusive Fitness Initiative) accredited machinery designed to cater to the diverse needs of our community.
