Dimitris obtained his Chemistry degree from the National Kapodistrian University of Athens (Greece) in 2016, followed by a Master of Science in Chemistry by Research at the University of Southampton in 2017. During his master’s thesis, he studied the fragmentation patterns of pharmaceutical compounds by using Density Functional Theory calculations and Mass Spectrometry (MS/MS).
He then joined the Skylaris group in 2017 for a four-year integrated PhD study, funded by EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Next Generation Computational Modelling, gaining experience in coding with Python, C and R programming languages.
His industrially funded PhD topic is "Simulation of Lubricant Properties for Interaction with Surfaces", in collaboration with Schaeffler. For this kind of work, he is using supercomputer facilities, numerical methods and statistics, to simulate rheological properties of lubricants and relative motion of metallic surfaces. Dimitris is highly interested in multiscale models, algorithms and statistics.
As a hobby, Dimitris writes music and plays a number of musical instruments, with violin and electric guitar being his favourite.
