This A-Z directory should provide all the information you will need.

If you are staying on campus and have any questions or concerns, please contact our 24 hour reception staff who will be pleased to help you.

Arts and culture

The University hosts two internationally celebrated arts venues.  The Nuffield Theatre creates award-winning productions which frequently tour internationally. The theatre runs full programmes of classics, revivals, new theatre and studio performances. The Turner Sims Concert Hall is acknowledged as one of the finest music venues in the country. Hosting over 60 concerts a year, it attracts leading musicians from the worlds of classical, jazz, folk and world music. 

Banks

Most of the main high street banks are on the main Highfield Campus together with a bookshop and a Post Office. Cashpoints are located near the banks and next to the Student Union shop.

Catering

We provided catering in accordance with your conference programme. Please refer to your conference programme or Halls of Residence Reception for confirmation of times.

Vending machines are available throughout the Halls of Residence and around the campuses.

If you wish to buy additional catering, our retail outlets are open Monday to Friday serving drinks and snacks.

Please vacate your bedroom by 9:30am on the day of departure and ensure your key is returned to reception. A charge of £25 per key is made for any missing / lost keys.

Child care

The on-site Early Years Centre care is for children aged 4 months - 5 years in a safe and secure setting. Ad-hoc sessions can be arranged but must be pre-booked in advance of a conference.

Fire Detectors (Halls of Residence)

Your room is fitted with a fire detector. They are extremely sensitive and can be set off by hair dryers, hair straighteners, large amounts of hair spray etc.  Please open the room windows if you are using these types of equipment or styling products.

Fire Evacuation (Halls of Residence)

Fire instructions are provided in your bedroom – please familiarise yourself with the emergency procedures.

Hairdresser

Shine Hairdressing is located on Highfield Campus above the Student Union Shop - contact directly www.shine-southampton.co.uk or 023 8059 5060

Housekeeping (Halls of Residence)

Your bedroom will be supplied with: duvet, fitted sheet and two pillows, bath towel, hand towel, bath mat and soap. We do not supply any toiletries (e.g. shower gel / shampoo etc).

The heating is turned off in the bedrooms during the summer (June – September) if you are cold and would like extra bedding, please contact Reception (Dial 25975 from your room telephone).

Kitchens are equipped with: kettle, cups and saucers, teaspoons, tea/coffee, milk, tea towel, washing-up liquid and washing-up cloth.

Bedrooms and kitchens are serviced daily.

Internet Access

Guests and visitors to the University can access free WiFi using the 'WiFi Guest' account.  Select WiFi Guest from the available network list, open browser, refresh the page and follow the on-screen instructions to register or log in.

Ironing and Hairdryers

Iron, ironing boards and hair dryers are available from reception (a £5.00 deposit is required) (phone 25975 from your room phone or 02380 595975 from a mobile)

Laundry (Halls of Residence)

Laundry facilities are available at your Halls of Residence – please ask at reception for details.

Medical Services

Should you require non-emergency medical assistance the University Health Centre is situated on the main Highfield Campus, telephone 023 8055 7531.

Southampton General Hospital has Accident & Emergency and eye units, telephone 023 8077 7222.

Parking

There is a 100 space pay and display car park at Highfield Campus for use by visitors. It is located on University Road, near Burgess Road and costs £7.20 for up to 7 hours. The machines accept coins, chip and pin and contactless card payment.  Please be aware that it does not accept Apple or Android Pay.

Residential Area

The Halls of Residence are often populated with other residents and are located in residential areas – so please be respectful to others.

We request if you are arriving back to your Halls of Residence late in the evening that you return quietly.

Safety and Security (Halls of Residence)

For your personal safety you will find a range of security measures in place, from digital locks to uniformed patrolling officers. However, we would urge you to take basic everyday precautions when staying in the Halls of Residence:

Shopping

The Student Union Shop on Highfield Campus sells a range of goods including fresh produce, newspapers, magazines and confectionery. A range of shops, restaurants and supermarkets can be found locally in Portswood but a wider selection is available in Southampton town centre, a short taxi or bus ride from the University.

Smoking

All University of Southampton buildings including bedrooms, dining rooms and social areas are strictly non-smoking.

Sports Facilities

A fitness suite, 25m 6-lane swimming pool and 8-court sports hall are available at the Jubilee Sports Hall on the main Highfield Campus. Contact reception for details.

The Uni-link bus service operates a wide service around Southampton. The main Interchange for the Uni-link bus service is situated on the Highfield Campus. There are Uni-Link bus stops on the main road, outside of your Halls of Residence.
