CORMSIS hosted the first annual PhD conference.
More than 20 students spoke about their work in short sessions at the two day event which was aimed at promoting networking, collaboration and data sharing. A conference dinner was also held at a restaurant in Southampton.
Doctoral students in Management and Mathematics seized the chance to present their work to fellow students and academic staff at the first annual PhD conference of CORMSIS.
PhD student Ben Shelbourne, a Maths student who is examining ways to solve vehicle routing and scheduling problems, says it was a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience: "Outlining our research, practising our presentation skills and gaining constructive feedback is important for early career researchers. Some of us had to present our work formally at a European conference a couple of weeks after our PhD event; we found it very useful to boost our confidence."
