Workload Control - a production planning and control concept for customised industry

Production Planning and Control (PPC) is an enduring challenge in high-variety low-volume customised industry e.g., Make-To-Order (MTO) companies, given high levels of complexity and uncertainty involved in the order fulfilment process. Such companies continue to have inadequate planning information for sale decisions, and struggle with various challenges (e.g., tight due dates, rush orders, capacity constraints) in production control. Although researchers and practitioners are paying increasing attention to bespoke manufacturing, few effective PPC solutions are demonstrated in practice.
