Abstract of the talk: Spare optimization problems have found broad applications in signal recovery. The related theory and algorithms, especially for compressed sensing and sparse data representation, have experienced remarkable developments for more than a decade. However, many problems remain open or have only been partially addressed. In this presentation, some of these problems at their current stage of development are briefly introduced and their links to convex and nonconvex mathematical optimization are also briefly discussed.
