Event details

Curvature optimization is a fundamental task in various applications, including image processing, manufacture industry, and computer graphics. However, minimizing curvature is challenging because it involves high order PDEs (geometric flows) and high order smoothness requirement. In this talk, I will show several simple filters that can efficiently minimize curvature without such limitations. Our filters are 1000 times faster than the classical geometric flows and do not require the surface to be second order differentiable. Our filters minimize curvature without explicitly computing it. Their efficiency and effectiveness is confirmed by several numerical experiments in image processing and triangular mesh processing. Such simple filters can be applied in a large range of applications where minimizing curvature is needed.
