Event details

This talk introduces a new inventory procurement problem that arises in the context of managing the emergency food supply for delivery to refugees affected by natural disasters in West Java, Indonesia. The main decision is how to allocate a fixed annual budget for procurement of rice into each month, subject to uncertain future demands and prices, and accounting for perishability. We will first describe the deterministic integer formulation of the problem, and also a general procedure to evaluate any decision-making routine designed to address the problem. We then discuss methods to improve the robustness of the solution, and present preliminary results based on real historical data.
