Clearing and Adjustment visit day

10:00 - 13:00 - Building 38 (Staff Social Centre)

Please note, this event is specifically for students who have already made an application to the University through Clearing or adjustment. After you applied, you would have received an email with an invitation to book onto this event (check all email folders including junk and spam). As the course and degree programme activities have individual reserved times it is essential you book onto this event to attend. If you cannot find your email invitation or have any questions please email visit@soton.ac.uk.

This is a great opportunity for students who have made an application through Clearing or Adjustment to see the University and get a feel for student life here at Southampton. You will be able to find out more from staff about your chosen degree programme and from current students about living and studying at the University of Southampton. 

On the day, when you arrive at Highfield campus you will need to go to Building 38 (Staff Social Centre) to register for the event, where you can enjoy a complimentary tea or coffee. There will be signage around campus to direct you where to go.

You will find all the details for the day below though if you are unsure of anything please get in touch, and keep an eye on your emails for any updates. We look forward to meeting you and seeing you all there.

Tours

The following selection are some of our most popular student tours for you. All tours will be available from 10:00, with the last tours starting at 13:00.

Highfield campus tours

Tours will depart as and when required from the Campus Tours stand in Building 38 (Staff Social Centre). Tours will be run by our current students and will last approximately 30 minutes.

Hartley Library

Details of a self-guided tour of the Hartley Library (Building 12) will be available from the Library reception desk.

The jubilee sports centre

Details of a self-guided tour of the Jubilee Sports Centre (Building 18) will be available from the Sports Centre reception desk.

University advice and information

Course and degree programme

For academic advice on your course and degree programme, you will have booked and received a time when you can meet directly with staff from your chosen subject. Although every effort will be made to ensure timings are kept to, you may have a short wait depending on the number of visitors attending the event. If for any reason there are any unforeseen changes to availability with your chosen time, you will be contacted by e-mail to advise you of an alternative time.

Accommodation - University Residences Team, Building 37

Students who come through Clearing and Adjustment in 2017 are guaranteed an offer of accommodation (application required). The Residential Services team will be on hand in Building 37 to help visitors with accommodation queries, with advice on the application process and finding the best accommodation for you.

General advice and information - Welcome Desk, Building 38 (Staff Social Centre)

Pick up general information about the University and enjoy a complimentary tea or coffee. Staff will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.

Travel and directions

Registration will take place in Building 38, Staff Social Centre on the Highfield Campus.

Parking

Parking is available in the Jubilee Sports Centre car park off University Road. Please enter  satellite navigation SO17 1TL. The entrance to the Jubilee Sports Centre car park is located next to the Highfield Health off University Road. Our student ambassadors will be stationed at the car park to assist you. Parking is free and you do not require a permit.

Disabled Parking

Parking for disabled visitors is available in our visitor’s car park and the Jubilee Car Park located off off University Road, post code SO17 1TL. Please utilise any marked bay. Parking is free and does not require a permit.

By train

For Highfield Campus depart at Southampton Airport Parkway station. Exit on the airport side of the station and catch a U1 uni-link bus (every 10 minutes) to the University campus. The cost is £3.50 for a day rider ticket. The transfer time is around 15 minutes. Taxis are also available at the station and cost around £10.00 (guide only).

On arrival at the Highfield Interchange follow the event signage to Building 38 (Staff Social Centre).

By bus

The University’s own award-winning uni-link buses provide an interconnecting bus service between all University campuses, the city centre and public transport services (rail, air and ferry). The uni-link flat fare is £2.00 single or £3.50 for an All Day Travel Ticket. Please see the uni-link website for full details.

By National Express Coach

Visitors arriving at the Burgess Road by National Express Coach can exit here and follow the event signage to Building 38 (Staff Social Centre).

By Ferry

Catch the uni-link U1 bus to the Highfield campus. The bus calls every 30 minutes at the bus stop in Town Quay Road (by Customs House clock, next to the traffic lights, outside the terminal entrance). The journey time is approximately 30 minutes.

On arrival at the Highfield Interchange follow the event signage to, Building 38 (Staff Social Centre)

By air

Southampton Airport provides a range of domestic and continental services. On exiting the airport cross over the road to the train station side of the road where you will see a uni-link bus stop. Catch the U1 uni-link bus service (every 10 minutes) direct to the Highfield campus.

On arrival at the Highfield Interchange follow the event signage to Building 38 (Staff Social Centre).

Key information

First Aid

There will be first aid trained security personnel at Highfield Campus. If you need a first aider, please approach the nearest Student Ambassador or member of staff or contact the Welcome Desk in Building 38 (Staff Social Centre).

Lost Property and Meeting Point

The meeting point for lost persons will be at the Welcome Desk in, Building 38 (Staff Social Centre) on the Highfield Campus. This is also the location to enquire about lost property.

Food and refreshments

Tea, coffee and water will be available for all visitors on arrival. Sandwiches, snacks and additional hot drinks will be available to purchase from the Lattes Café in Building 38 (Staff Social Centre). Follow the event signage or ask a Student Ambassador in a yellow t-shirt to direct you.
