How scholarships are awarded
Your eligibility will be assessed when you make your application to study at the University.
These scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit. The criteria for scholarship awards are available on the appropriate International Merit Scholarships webpages for undergraduate and postgraduate (master’s) courses. The equivalency of international qualifications will be determined by the University’s standard admissions criteria, and are available on request from the relevant Admission team. All decisions are final.
For country‐specific scholarships, eligibility will be determined by your nationality and qualification as indicated in your University of Southampton application, supported by your passport and your academic transcript.
You can only be in receipt of one Southampton International Merit Scholarship. If you meet the eligibility criteria for more than one scholarship, you will be awarded the scholarship of higher value.
If you are awarded a scholarship, you will receive confirmation in writing.
Scholarship Conditions
All scholarships, unless otherwise specified, are non‐deferrable and apply to 2022 entry only. If you are offered a scholarship and then choose to defer your place to a later year, the offer of the scholarship will be withdrawn.
If you are awarded a scholarship, you must:
- meet any conditions attached to your academic offer. A scholarship will only be awarded subject to meeting all the conditions attached to your offer to study at the University of Southampton (UK campus) in September 2022.
- enrol as a full‐time student on your academic course by the given start date, as specified in your confirmation email/letter.
- provide evidence of your nationality, domicile and qualification when you enrol.
- be, and remain throughout your period of enrolment, classified as ‘Overseas’ for fee purposes.
- pay all outstanding tuition fees by University deadlines. Non‐payment of fees by the due date may result in the scholarship being withdrawn and you may be charged full fees.
If you intend to apply for other funding, you must inform the Faculty Admissions team of any other scholarships/sponsorship you hold, or are awarded at a later date and this must be confirmed no later than 31 July 2022.
All decisions by the University of Southampton are taken in good faith and based on the information that you provide in your application form. If we discover that you have made a false statement or fail to provide significant and relevant information the University reserves the right to withdraw your scholarship.
Payment of the scholarships
Southampton International Merit Scholarships will be awarded for 2022 entry only and are non‐renewable after the 2022-23 year of study. In subsequent years, full international tuition fees will be payable, fixed at the full tuition fee rate for 2022 entry.
The scholarship will take the form of a tuition fee reduction and will be applied before any other discounts e.g. alumni discount.
The scholarships will normally be awarded in the first semester, but variations may apply, depending on each Faculty.
The University of Southampton scholarships are not available as a cash alternative.
