Background to the theory and applications of liquid and solid state NMR and ESR techniques.

Learning Outcomes

Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:

  • Understanding of the theoretical models of NMR and ESR experiments.
  • Knowledge of spin relaxation theory and its use in structure determination.
  • Understanding of the rotational properties of anisotropic spin interactions.
  • Understanding of principles behind the simulation and interpretation of NMR / ESR data.

Secular approximations Perturbative relaxation theories Correlation functions and spectral densities Average Hamiltonian theories NMR / ESR experiment simulation – liquid state NMR / ESR experiment simulation – solid state Fokker-Planck equations and related theories
