FILM8001 Extended Research Proposal

Module Overview

The Extended Research Proposal involves the production of a written research proposal of 5,000 words that should be the foundation for the student's doctoral thesis. This module has no timetabled hours and is based on individual tutorials with a supervisor.

To produce a viable and suitably detailed and conceived outline of proposed research which will be pursued on the rest of the iPhD programme.

Syllabus

The Extended Research Proposal is achieved through individual tutorials with the student's supervisor. It takes the form of a written research proposal that should form the basis of the student's doctoral research project. The student should have been prepared for this task by completing Film6029 Research in FIlm Studies and Film6030 Preparing for the Dissertation.

Teaching and learning methods

Individual tutorials only. The module requires an overall commitment of 150 hours of independent research and tutorials from the student. In terms of tutorials the student is likely to have between 4 and 6.

Assessment

Assessment Strategy

One piece of writing is submitted for this module. Two members of staff (one being the iPhD student's supervisor) assess the extended research proposal. This module is completed at the end of the first year and requires a pass of 70% to move on to the next stage of the iPhD.
