MANG6209 Report Writing Skills

Module Overview

Working in business, it is important to be able to process and summarise information accurately and appropriately, to make it useful to others. In doing so it is also necessary to correctly assess the needs of the audience for a report, and to be able to accurately judge how to present the information and make recommendations based on available evidence. This module will look at that process and give you an opportunity to write a business report for a specific audience.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge and Understanding

Having successfully completed this module, you will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

  • the qualities of a ‘good’ business report;
  • the planning required in writing a report.
Subject Specific Intellectual and Research Skills

Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:

  • critically evaluate business reports;
  • assess your own and your peers report planning and writing skills.
Transferable and Generic Skills

Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:

  • confidently plan a report;
  • present a well-structured and concise report;
  • support your peers in class activities.


Qualities of a good report, who is your audience, report writing techniques, planning and preparation of reports.

Teaching and learning methods

This module will be delivered in a series of presentation and discussion sessions. Learning activities include: Small group work, Individual planning time, peer review of work.
