Building an Art Biennale day 2

WEDNESDAY 9 MAY – HOW TO BIENNALE!

How to Biennale! was a call to all those interested and/or engaged in making art events and exhibitions happen. Bringing together participants from around the country engaged in local, regional and national biennales and contemporary art events, the event was devised as both a forum for the exchange of expertise and the site of production for a book, How to Biennale! The Manual. The book seeks to offer a practical and accessible guide to making art ‘eventful’ outside of formal institutional structures and expectations. Participants were invited to formulate their own materials for the book. They received a limited ‘draft’ edition of the publication and were encouraged to develop and contribute their own additions to the final version. In the afternoon, a series of informal discussion groups were facilitated by those with key experience, running across a range of issues from thinking through vision and distinctiveness to building a team and connecting with artists and audiences.
