Abstract: Unsafe abortion is a significant but preventable cause of global maternal mortality and morbidity; liberal abortion laws do not guarantee access to safe abortion. Dr Coast will present reflections on understandings of abortion, including:

  1. a new conceptual framework for understanding trajectories to abortion
  2. perspectives on the role of abortion in fertility transitions
  3. findings from recent research on abortion in Zambia.
