Miss Vivian Hiu-Tung So is Postgraduate Research Student within Social Statistics & Demography at the University of Southampton.

I obtained my BSc from the University of Hong Kong majoring in Statistics with two minors in Geography and Swedish. Later I received a MSc in Library and Information Management from the University of Hong Kong while I was working in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. I also worked in the University of Hong Kong to assist in the coordination of Graduation Employment Survey where I gained experiences in questionnaire development, data management, statistical analysis and report writing.

I worked for the Hong Kong government before I joined University of Southampton for my MSc in Social Statistics (Statistics Pathway). My MSc dissertation topic “Effect of Incentives on Data Quality – An Experiment from the Understanding Society Innovation Panel” looked into the impacts of incentives on data quality, particularly in item nonresponse. After I completed the MSc in 2013, I returned to Hong Kong and worked as a research assistant in the Sau Po Centre on Ageing at the University of Hong Kong, being involved in the Reaching Out Dementia Caregiver Support Project which was adapted from the Resources for Enhancing Alzheimer’s Caregiver Health II from the United States and several other research projects. I re-joined the University of Southampton as a postgraduate research student after a year working back in Hong Kong.
