Research

Our research connects statisticians and demographers, economists and social policy analysts in Economic, Social and Political Sciences with academics from across the University and beyond. We host the largest group of demographers in the UK, and we specialise in innovations in statistical methodology. We are known for the expertise and international scope of our researchers and for the application of cutting-edge quantitative and qualitative methods. Much of our work has global impact, aiding our partners in the development of policy worldwide.

We work in four main areas that inform policy, design, and practice:

Demography - including:
Family Demography
Historical Demography
Voluntary Sector, Social Welfare and Inequality
Statistical Demography, including migration modelling

Sample Survey Theory and Methods - including:
Applications to Official Statistics
Survey Methods in a Digital Age

Statistical Modelling

We direct several large research centres, including the Centre for Population Change, the National Centre for Research Methods, and the Centre for Global Health, Population, Poverty, & Policy.
