Panopto recording showing video, computer screen and notes
Video playback has long been used by trainee teachers, athletes, counsellors, lawyers, etc. to improve their professional performance.
We are working with allied health professionals (AHP) teaching staff to use video technology to capture Observed Simulated Practical Examinations (OSPEs). Currently students conduct these before an examiner who observes, assesses and makes notes for feedback according to a marking criteria. Feedback is given via eAssignment.
We are piloting the use of Panopto so that all OSPE video footage can be captured using Panopto.
For Individual deployment to student candidates
Using a variety of video sources (multiple cameras, simulated patient monitoring screen systems etc.)
With live annotation supplied by examiners instantly onto the video timeline, so that when reviewing, students can jump to critical moments in the exam video.
The aim is to Improve:
Quality and accuracy of assessment
Moderation and assessment consistency
Speed of feedback using keyboard shortcuts and avoiding multiple transactions, re-writing of notes etc.
Personal performance with opportunities for students’ own reflective comments to be added to the timeline
By using a standard eLearning system, we aim to
Establish this as an integral part of all teaching and learning.
Develop the routine discrete use of Panopto in clinical and other practical environments to help reduce performance anxiety. The work is currently being done with Physiotherapy students on CVR (cardio-vascular & respiratory) pathways. The plan is to subsequently roll this out to musculo-skeletal and neuro students and later other health professionals
