Joining instructions

Before the fun begins...

Before you arrive for your Discover Oceanography session, to make sure your day is a success, there are a few things we need to make sure you are aware of.

The group information form which will have been emailed to you, must be completed and you must have received confirmation of receipt from the Discover Oceanography Team. If you have not received confirmation please contact us as soon as possible.

All sessions take place on the boat and as such there are many factors which should be taken into consideration before you arrive. In particular dress code, it is imperative that participants are adequately dressed for their session. It can be windy out at sea, even though there is no wind onshore. Therefore coats and jackets are essential (It is far better to have these items and not need them, than it is to go without). Waterproof clothing is essential, we are after all out on the water. Appropriate clothing is season dependent, if your session is taking place in the height of summer then sunblock, hat and sunglasses will be more appropriate than a thick woolly jumper! Adequate footwear is also essential; footwear must be flat and cover the whole foot.

No flip flops, sandals or high heels.

It is the group leader’s responsibility to ensure that all participants are adequately dressed. We reserve the right to exclude anyone who is inappropriately dressed from the vessel and/or certain activities onboard.

The boat has an upper limit of 36 passengers and therefore it is not possible to sneak a few extras on. This is a legal requirement and extra passengers will not be accommodated.

Please be aware the Discover Oceanography sessions are at the mercy of the weather, it is extremely rare that sessions have to be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions, but this could potentially happen. The program could also be changed at short notice.

Some of the activities which we do on the boat, can be considered “messy” and therefore participants should be made aware of this and wear clothing which is suitable. E.g. not the best outfit they own.
