Engagement

An important part of our work to further equality and diversity is consultation with members of the University's community. We do this through engagement with various groups, which come together as the Equality and Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

Staff networks

As well as the support that staff networks provide to their members, we recognise these groups as invaluable for consulting on issues and proposed changes. The full list is available on the staff networks page, but the main groups with representation include the Parents' and Carers' Network, LGBT Network, WiSET and Theano.

Staff unions

The University formally recognises three trade unions as part of the Joint Negotiating Committee (JNC). Each of these unions has equality representatives, who we invite as standing members of the Equality & Diversity Consultative Group. This ensures that the unions can contribute their views and raise concerns, on behalf of their members, related to equality in the University.

Students' Union

The Students' Union President is a standing member of the Equality & Diversity Consultative Group and the Equality & Diversity Advisory Committee. However, the president is usually represented by one of the Vice-Presidents' with an appropriate portfolio (e.g. VP Welfare or VP Communities). This could change on a meeting-by-meeting basis as appropriate to the agenda of the meeting.

Athena SWAN

The chair of the University's Athena SWAN Committee, is a standing member of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee. Chairs of each of the departmental Athena SWAN teams are also invited to attend the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
