Black History Month  Shine BAME Staff Network, University of Southampton Students' Union, Southampton General NHS Foundation Trust, Southampton City Council Black History Month is an event to celebrate the achievements, culture, and history of black people. The Shine BAME Staff Network will co-host a 'Stop and Search' event with the Students' Union and participate in the Southampton City Council Black History Month Launch 
4 Inclusive Communications  Equality Diversity and Inclusion Team, University of Southampton Communications Team  Workshops focusing on effective and inclusive communication throughout the university 
5 Springboard Programme  Women academics  Start of the 2017 personal and professional development programme for women academics 
11 International Coming Out Day   Pulse LGBT+ Staff Network An awareness day with emphasis on coming out to family, friends, and colleagues, and living life as an openly LGBT+ person; to discourage ignorance, homophobia and oppression by talking openly about one's identity 
11 Mosaic Unveiling  WiSET (Women in Science, Engineering and Thechnology) An event to celebrate Ada Lovelace day, held at Southampton General Hospital. The unveiling of a mosaic, made up of selfies of women at the University of Southampton, is a celebration of the university's female staff and the contributions they make
 17  Quiz Night  Theano: Supporting Women in Science, Engineering and Technology  A welcome event for 1st year female students in science, engineering and technology. The event provides new students with the opportunity to meet other peer students, followed by a quiz.

Diwali Lunch Shine BAME Staff Network, University of Southampton Students' Union Diwali (19 October) or Deepavali is the Hindu festival of lights. The Shine BAME Staff Network and Students' Union will host a lunch celebration, which will include performances from Bhangra Student Society
1-30 Men's Health Campaign Health and Safety, Student Services, Student Union Wellbeing Champions A campaign spread across the month of November to take notice of men's health. To raise awareness of the specific issues relating to men's mental and physical health and the benefit of exercise. The month will include a 5-a-side football tournament, Men's MOT, and three workshops
12-18 Interfaith Week Faith and Reflection Centre, Equality Diversity and Inclusion Team An event to build a good relationships and working partnerships between different people of different faiths, beliefs and no-religious beliefs.

6 Dragonfly Day Widening Participation Team Dragonfly are a popular initiatives run in partnership with the Outreach team for Year 9 girls for girls from local schools. Participants have an opportunity to meet and work with female engineers from the Faculty of Engineering and Environment. As well as doing practical investigations and experiments, there are opportunities to explore careers in STEM and quiz our researchers about their path to University.

Understanding and meeting childrens' emotional needs - with Lorraine Lee Parents' and Carers' Staff Network Lorraine Lee is a delivers dynamic and inspirational training for parents, teachers, practitioners, children and young people from early years right through to college. She will be delivering a short talk to members of the Parents' and Carers' Network

 Stonewall Lecture  Pulse LGBT+ Staff Network  The Stonewall Lecture is the key event in the LGBT+ History Month, and aims to present exciting new research on LGBT+ history. Professor Alison Oram (Leeds Beckett University) will speak about: 'Queer Beyond London: LGBT Culture and Place in English Cities since the 1960s'. For more on Prof Oram's research can be found here

8 Women's Health Matters: If you know your numbers - you get to choose University Wellbeing

A relaxed and informative workshop led by Julia Sinclair on the abreastofhealth research into alcohol awareness and breast cancer prevention. The myth busting workshop will look at what the new guidelines for alcohol consumption mean for women. Focusing on positive empowerment to maximise the opportunities for health benefits. There will be opportunities to participate and contribute throughout the hour and, if you are interested, further involvement in the ongoing research project.

9 Bright Club - International Woman's Day Special  Bright Club

Bright Club combines research and comedy to educate and entertain. It enables researchers to take their work to a wider audience, sharing their enthusiasm for their area of expertise within the guise of stand up comedy. This event will be themed to celebrate International Woman's Day

9 Women's Health Matters: The Art of Self Mastery University Wellbeing

In this workshop Donna will explore the fundamental link between how we think and the overall quality of our lives. She will be uncovering the truth behind the negative thinking that weigh us down, and show you how you can use the power of purposeful thought to be happier and create the life you want want.

9 A roundabout journey: from academia to industry and back Women in Physics Network

Maribel obtained her PhD from the University of Castilla La Mancha and, after experience as a postdoc, she moved into the emerging field of nano-pharmaceutical industry. She returned to academia for her current position as postdoc in the Laboratory for Inorganic Colloidal Nanocrystals and Applications at the University of Southampton. Maribel will talk about her personal journey between academia and industry in Spain and the UK.

12 Childcare Vouchers and Tax Free Childcare Rewards Team The Rewards Team will be delivering an information talk on the changes to the current Childcare Voucher Scheme offered by the University

15 Womens' Health Matters: Ripening nicely - the liberation of menopause University Wellbeing Menopause often receives negative but for some women it is a liberating experience. Come and find out more about the whole experience from both male and female perspective
27 Women's Health Matters: Know your normal University Wellbeing Come along for an hour of gynae-chat with The Eve Appeal, the UK's gynaecological cancer research charity. Join Tracie, a Gynae Cancer Nurse Specialist, and Karen, who writes and performs about having cervical cancer at 24, for an informative session on the signs and symptons of the 5 gynae cancers. You'll hear facts, stories and the word 'vagina'! Let's squash the stigma and talk about the taboos that surround gynaecological health
