International Women's Week 2013

International Women's Day takes place annually on 8 March, when thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate achievements. The University is pleased to be hosting a week-long programme of activities to mark this special event.

Weds 6th March

'Feel a bit stuck? Have a difficult situation to deal with? Want to make a change?... Come along to The Parent and Carers' Network Event 'Rise to the Challenge' facilitated by Anna Springett , a Chartered Occupational Psychologist who specialises in personal and leadership development. You will be encouraged to make positive steps towards a solution, and even come away with a plan. Be prepared to do some work!

Thurs 7th March

A lunchtime Diversity Network Event hosted by the University's Diversity Champion and Dean of Business and Law, Professor Jeremy Howells. Special guest Tessa Harrison, University Registrar, will talk about her life and career within higher education.

The University of Southampton Debating Society welcome you to a special debate to discuss 'This house believes a woman's place is at work'.

Fri 8th March

The Parent and Carers' Network Event are pleased to welcome Lorraine Lee, parenting practitioner to speak about 'Women as role models' . "During this session you will smile a lot, laugh a lot and think a lot.  It could just be the beginning of something amazing........"

**Main event**

'Women Shaping Society' is a free event bringing together staff and students to celebrate International Women's Day. The event will be opened by Professor Jeremy Howells and includes guest speakers Professor Jessica Corner, Nyovani Madise and Councillor Sarah Bogle. It also includes a fashion show from the African Caribbean Society, performances from the Jazzmanics and free light refreshments. The Arthouse will also be selling some tasty treats for you to enjoy or take home.
