Relocation

About 180 staff from iSolutions (the University's computing services group) are moving in 2015to a 'new' building, away from their traditional base of Highfield Campus.

The EA identified some groups who could potentially be disadvantages by the move. Issues included parking and access for people with known physical disabilities, and travel for parents (of both genders) of children who were currently at a day nursery or school near Highfield campus. As part of the Action Plan, one-to-one consultations allowed managers to explore these and other concerns in more detail and make appropriate individual adjustments. Managers were themselves given training ahead of these consultations.

The EA was carried out some months ahead of the planned move, allowing iSolutions to readily incorporate these actions into the wider relocation planning.

Design and implementation of career pathways

This project concerned a revision of the skills, capabilities, work activities and career development for MSA, TAE and CAO staff from Level 4 – 6*, feeding into relevant policy and practices. The EA steering group comprised managers from a number of services including those with significant numbers of technical and operational staff, a UCU representative and members of the HR team. New content will be published online rather than in booklet form as previously.

The Part 1 screening concluded that the revision would not have a detrimental effect on the identified groups, covering both UK and international staff, and that a Part 2 assessment was not required. In addition the team noted that the enhanced clarity and transparency would be beneficial to other, related activities such as recruitment, probation, re-grading and appraisal.
