Doctoral researchers from year two of candidature onwards, are invited to enter the 2017 Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition.

Fill in the online entry form here.

In the competition, doctoral researchers must use a single PowerPoint slide and no additional props or electronic media to present their research to a non-expert audience in just three minutes.

Organised locally by the Doctoral College as a part of a wider global initiative, postgraduate researchers will first be entered into a Faculty heat, with eight winners going on to compete in the University Grand Final in May 2017.

Last year’s University Grand Final winner, Nazira Albargothy from the Faculty of Medicine, went on to win the national 3MT champion title, beating competitors from across the UK.

Jo James, Professional Development Manager at the Doctoral College, said:

“Taking part in 3MT is a great opportunity for our researchers to hone their communication skills, as it encourages them to think about 1) the importance of their research (why they are doing it and for whom/what) and 2) how to communicate those things effectively and engagingly to a general audience.

“Even if their three minute presentation does not win them the competition, they will be able to use it in all sorts of other contexts.”

Training and support will be provided throughout the competition process, and you can find more information here.
