Six weeks to go until the Festival of Doctoral Research

Students and staff are invited to take part in the Festival of Doctoral Research, with bookings now open for a number of events.

Run by the Doctoral College, the Festival will run from 8 to 26 May, and aims to celebrate the University’s doctoral researchers and bring the research community together.

‘Community’ is the theme for this year’s Festival and there will be over 30 events over the three-week period, including:

  • Film Screening: Showing the award-winning documentary Tomorrow in partnership with Transition Southampton. Staff, students and members of the public are welcome to attend. Please click here to watch the trailer and find out more.

  • Bake your PhD: Bake a cake, or other baked goods, that visually portrays the topic/findings of your PhD. Postgraduate Researchers (PGRs) can enter the competition by clicking here, or if you would like to attend the showcase, please click here.

  • Doctoral College Director’s Awards: Nominations are now open for the Doctoral College Director’s Awards, recognising PGRs for exceptional achievements beyond their research project. Nominations close on 28 April.

  • Researcher Photography Competition: Entry is now open for the ‘Community’ themed photography competition. Entries close on 28 April. Open to PGRs only.

  • IT workshops: iSolutions are running a host of PGR-tailored workshops throughout the Festival, including ‘producing an effective research poster’ and ‘working with a text in a thesis in Word’. Open to PGRs only.

  • Emoji Thesis: Come along to this workshop and explain your thesis using emojis. Open to PGRs only.
