The Festival of Doctoral Research starts today

The three-week Festival of Doctoral Research starts today and runs until 26 May.

Targeted mainly at doctoral researchers, the Festival aims to celebrate and bring the University’s research community together.

There are a number of events open to all students, staff and members of the public. You can see the full programme by clicking here.

Festival highlights include:

  • Exploring ‘difference’: 11 May
    Guest speaker Michael Lassman will deliver a lecture and conduct workshops on how to communicate well, how to build connections based on differences and individuality and how to build a supportive peer network. Open to staff and doctoral researchers. Open to staff and doctoral researchers.

  • Researchers in Schools and Brilliant Club ‘Scholars Programme’ info event: 16 May
    A presentation and recruitment event for postgraduate researchers interested in transforming their PhD into a career in teaching. Open to doctoral researchers.
  • Three Minute Thesis Grand Final: 17 May
    Eight doctoral researchers (one per faculty) compete to become the Three Minute Thesis University champion. Open to all (staff, students, public)

  • Film Screening and Community Corner: 18 May
    Showcasing the award-winning documentary Tomorrow and hosting Community Corner, a fair where you are able to engage with members from local community initiatives across Southampton.  Open to all (staff, students, public)

  • CDT Research Showcase: 18 May
    Held at NOCS, the event will showcase work from CDTs/DTPs. There will be student talks, poster presentations and free transport will be provided between Highfield and NOCS. Open to staff and doctoral researchers.

  • Voices of Experience: 23 May
    Listen in on insights, wisdom and top tips from current and past doctoral researchers about their PhD journey. Open to staff and all students.
