The second step in your Orientation to Teaching/Demonstrating is attendance at an online workshop.
Who is this session for?
The OTD Step 2 online workshop is provided for all doctoral researchers who do not have access to teacher/demonstrator training locally within their own Academic Unit (see below for alternative local courses).
The session builds on material covered in the online course in OTD Step 1. You will be asked to have your NOTES from the online course to hand for reference and so you can work on questions during the online workshop.
The focus will be very practical, comprising small group work, plenary discussions, and personal reflection.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the OTD Step 2 session you will have:
- consolidated your own learning from the online course;
- increased your understanding of the learning process;
- developed skills in planning and delivering a session;
- begun to understand how to facilitate and assess the learning of your students;
- developed knowledge of resources available to support learning.
Throughout the session you will have the opportunity to reflect on your own contributions and those of others, including the facilitators! You could use these observations as the basis of a professional portfolio of evidence of your work as an educator.

However, you will still find OTD Step 1 (online course) useful, and we encourage you to use this alongside your local course.
