Training for teaching: seminar leaders & demonstrators

As a postgraduate research student at the University of Southampton, you may engage in a variety of teaching activities either at the request of your faculty or department or because you wish to invest in your professional development by enhancing your skills and experience in this area.

To ensure that you are prepared for teaching, you must undertake introductory training through the University-wide SoTeach programme. In some faculties, SoTeach is complemented by departmental-specific training: details will be available through your Graduate School. Until all training requirements have been met, you will be unable to apply for teaching roles or to receive payment for teaching.

SoTeach: Training for Teaching

The SoTeach programme consists of three distinct parts:

SoTeach1:  Introducing Teaching and Learning in HE (online, asynchronous).

SoTeach2:  Developing Teaching and Learning in HE (in person and online).

SoTeach3:  Recognising Teaching and Learning in HE (in person) - launching in 2024.

SoTeach1 and 2 are mandatory, SoTeach3 is optional. On completion of all three parts of the SoTeach programme you will achieve a nationally recognised qualification, becoming an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
