Mandatory Training

The Doctoral College has identified a set of training courses which are mandatory for all new doctoral researchers, whatever their discipline.  Follow the guidance and links below to ensure you comply with these compulsory requirements.

Health & Safety Induction

Access and complete the University's on-line Health & Safety Induction materials, via these steps:

1. Log-in to the Health & Safety Sharepoint

2. click on the link to the eLearning modules

3. find 'UoS H&S Introduction v2' in the list of courses (you will need to scroll down using the slider on the right)

4. click on the course and follow the instructions to work through the course (you will need headphones or the sound enabled on your device).

NB Completion data for this course is recorded and will be tracked by a designated member of staff in your department; the Doctoral College is not able to monitor completions.

You will also need to follow the specific health & safety guidance/requirements set out by your department/school/faculty.

Equality & Diversity Briefing

Access and complete the University's on-line Equality & Diversity Briefing - this will give you an awareness of current legislation and enhance your understanding of diversity and the reasons for supporting equality. IMPORTANT  You need to enrol by clicking the “+ Enrol” button on the left before the start the course, or your activity will not be tracked.

Further Mandatory Training

Ethics Awareness Training

All new doctoral researchers are required to undertake basic awareness training via the on-line module 'Ethics1: Good Research Practice'.

Teaching or Demonstrating

If you are going to be involved in teaching or demonstrating you will need to undertake threshold training before you begin.
