Basic Awareness Training - Research Ethics and Research Integrity

All new doctoral researchers are required to undertake basic awareness training via the on-line courses: 'Ethical Research' and 'Research Integrity' and to complete the related quizzes.

Please follow these instructions to access and complete this training:

1. Log in to Blackboard (the University's virtual learning environment)

2. From 'my courses' select 'PGR-RS Mandatory Skills for Doctoral Researchers' (as a new pg researcher you will have been enrolled automatically and the course will appear in your course list; please email doctoral-college@soton.ac.uk, if this is not the case).

3. Once inside the course, select 'Training Materials' from the left-hand top menu.

4. Select the folder (and sub-folder where applicable) for a course.

5. Select a module by clicking on the title. The course materials will open in a new window.

(NB for Ethical Research there are two courses containing four modules each.  For Research Integrity, you should select the module related to the discipline in which you are working.)

6. Work through all appropriate sections of the course material. NB you do not have to complete all the material in one go, and you can revisit sections any number of times.

7. When you are happy with your level of understanding for a module, complete the related Quiz (via the Quizzes folder on the main menu). You can make more than one attempt at the Quiz, and you can revisit the course materials in between attempts if you need further study-time.

8. You must complete all the content and related quizzes for both courses.  Quizzes can be taken several times until you achieve full marks. Your Faculty will check your scores on this mandatory training at the end of the year.
