Doctoral College

Three Minute Thesis 2018

Our 2018 3MT Grand Final winner was Rachel Owen, from the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences. Rachel competed against doctoral researchers from (at the time) our seven other Faculties, and impressed the judges to win first prize.

Rachel Owen (Environmental and Life Sciences) went on to represent the University in the UK competition, where she progressed through to the National Final.

We met with Rachel to talk through her 3MT experience, from the beginning stages, all the way to the final, as well as a few words of wisdom for those just starting out in their academic adventure. Read the full interview here.

Rachel's entry on her research ‘unravelling the origins of DFT2, a newly emerged contagious cancer threatening the Tasmanian devil with extinction' is available to watch on the University of Southampton YouTube channel.
