Dr Booker Ogutu is a Black Futures tutor and a lecturer in the School of Geography and Environmental Science.

I aim to champion the success of our Black Futures scholars, so they can progress smoothly through the scheme and thrive within the University and beyond.

I am a lecturer in Remote Sensing at the School of Geography and Environmental Science. My research involves exploiting Earth Observation data to understand the status and changes in terrestrial ecosystems and their function. For example, I investigate how climate change is affecting the capacity of terrestrial vegetation to capture and store carbon.

Being one of the few Black members of staff in the Faculty of Environmental and Life Sciences, I am keen to contribute to the dismantling of institutional and cultural barriers that hinder the progress of Black students within the University.

Therefore, I am proud to be one of the Black Futures tutors. I aim to promote and champion the success of our Black Futures scholars, so they can progress smoothly through the scheme and thrive within the University and beyond.
