Doctoral Researcher Welcome Reception

Doctoral College Welcome Sessions

In both November and February, the Doctoral College hosted a Welcome Reception for new doctoral researchers. The event was held at NST City in November and Turner Sims in February. The Doctoral College, alongside the Directors of the Graduate Schools and the Graduate School Team Leaders, welcomed over 100 researchers to the event.

Vice Chancellor (Interim), Professor Mark Spearing formally welcomed the researchers to Southampton and celebrated the research journey they are about to embark upon. The attendees then heard from the Director of the Doctoral College, Professor Christopher Howls.

The evening saw the doctoral researchers ‘discover their connections,’ meet with a selection of Professional Services and, find out about what opportunities are on offer at Southampton. They also heard a few insights into the PhD journey from two fellow doctoral researchers, as well as some words of wisdom from Theoretical Physics Professor, Head of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics and PhD Supervisor Professor Marika Taylor.

We would like to thank colleagues who took the time to join us at this event and meet our new doctoral researchers:
