Dr Foivos Savva is a Lecturer in Economics at the University of Southampton.
I obtained my BSc and MPhil in Economics from the University of Athens and did my PhD in Economics at the University of Glasgow. Before I joined the University of Southampton, I had worked for the Competition and Markets Authority in the UK and taught at the University of St Andrews.
In my research, I am interested in institution design and how a society can align individual incentives towards collective goals. My research has specifically outlined the importance of pro-social motives in designing better institutions. My main goal is to uncover the fine line between what is desirable from the society’s point of view and what is feasible from the individual incentives’ viewpoint.
I am also interested in normative issues in Welfare Economics such as intergenerational justice, population ethics and responsibility. Finally, I am a Forethought Foundation Fellow for research in Global Priorities.
