Economics pathways

Economics has a thriving community, attracting a wide range of students from very different backgrounds.

The three pathways provide conceptual and analytical tools in intermediate microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics. The pathways will equip you with a solid technical background and with the knowledge of economic theory and its applications.

You will have the opportunity to study economics in the greatest depth whilst also facing a considerable amount of choice in theoretical and empirical analysis of financial markets. We aim to offer the highest quality learning experience. You will be taught by academics at the forefront of their disciplines.

For those without a background in Economics or Sociology we also offer the Economy and Society pathway which allows you to take introductory modules providing the important theoretical underpinnings for further study.

Teaching comprises both lectures and weekly or fortnightly group classes. You can expect a mixture of methods of assessment: written examinations, mid-term tests, essays, problem sets and team projects.

The three Economics pathways have been designed for students with some background in Economics at the undergraduate level.  Students with no previous background in Economics should enrol on the Economy and Society themed pathway which includes introductory modules.

Each of the pathways can be studied for one or two semesters. You will study four modules per semester. Please choose any compulsory modules specified on the pathway and additional optional modules up a maximum of six in each semester. This will give up to two reserve choices in case optional modules are not available for any reason.  Linked Master’s programmes are listed where they exist for each pathway. Students meeting the criteria for progression will qualify for admission onto these Master’s programmes.
