Hi, I'm Turkan Gasimova and I studied MSc Education Management and Leadership within Southampton Education School at the University of Southampton.

One of the best highlights in my career so far has been getting a degree in the field of Education Management and Leadership. It has enabled me to become a professional Education Counsellor, where I can help students to understand the value of education.

Why did you choose to come and study at Southampton?

I chose MSc Education Management and Leadership at the University Of Southampton for my belief in the importance of bespoke quality education, and I knew this degree would provide me with the best platform for securing my future successful career and to continue my personal and professional development. Additionally, I loved the city and the University’s campus.

What were you Southampton ‘highlights’ (best experiences)?

I’ve had the best highlights of my life during my studies at the University of Southampton. I enjoyed attending lecturers, taking part in group tasks with my classmates, exchanging ideas with them, discussing the topics from different perspectives and learning from each other. All of these offered a flexible environment to us. I was passionate about the modules, which gave us practical and theoretical knowledge. Meeting friends from a different cultural background taught me a lot of new things – it gave me the opportunity to get to know each country’s traditions, national meals, culture, and language, helped by joining societies and celebrating the festivals and holidays of different countries.

What did you enjoy most about your course?

Overall, the Education department was helpful and the course very interesting – I enjoyed every part of it. In particular, I enjoyed my dissertation project and working with my supervisor. This project taught me about research methodology, gave me experience in conducting research and working with participants. It was such an amazing project and I enjoyed every second of it. When we faced challenges in our work, our lecturers and professors were always happy to assist and to give us important suggestions.

What have been the highlights of your career to date?

One of the best highlights in my career so far has been getting a degree in the field of Education Management and Leadership. How did your time at Southampton help you to grow as a person and help you get to where you are now?

My research project helped to develop my transferrable skills such as research and analysis. Studying at this University has boosted the chances of my future international career. I have had opportunities to meet people from various countries and cultures, offering me different points of view and contributing to my flexibility and creativity. Studying Education Management and Leadership has not only improved my theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of education but also allowed me to gain decision-making, problem-solving management and leadership skills.
