Dr Efstathia Karakosta is a Research Fellow within Southampton Education School at the University of Southampton.

My research interest lies in the domain of Education and Special Educational Needs and specifically in the educational provision offered to pupils in the mainstream and special primary school context. In addition my research interests centre on the teaching and learning practices provided to the pupils in the mainstream and special school environment, and the identification of pupils social and emotional wellbeing.

I hold an MEd in Special Educational Needs and an MSc in Educational Research from the University of Exeter. My PhD in Education (University of Exeter) examined the provision offered to pupils who experience Speech and Language Disorders and their social development (examining also other SEN categories, such as Dyslexia, ASD or ADHD) in mainstream primary school settings with language units.

Following my PhD I worked as a post doctoral Research Fellow in the ‘KASPAR’ project at the University of Hertfordshire (Adaptive Systems Research Group), examining the possible therapeutic and educational benefits for children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder who interact with the humanoid KASPAR robot.

Currently I’m involved in the Horizon2020 - funded project ProSocialLearn:
