Ms Jan Lewis
Senior Teaching Fellow

Ms Jan Lewis is Senior Teaching Fellow within Southampton Education School at the University of Southampton.
Jan has taught science in a variety of secondary schools in London, Norfolk, Wiltshire and in a forces school in Germany. Amongst a variety of roles undertaken she has been a Head of Department, a Subject Mentor and whole school Professional Mentor, responsible for all trainee teachers and newly qualified teachers in her school.
She is now a PGCE Science Tutor at the Southampton Education School and both the Science Tutor and Admissions Tutor for the Graduate Teacher Programme. She has recently led a joint schools and university project, funded by the TDA, to develop paired placements and mentoring support within school science placements.
Over the past few years she has worked on a number of educational projects, such as the Fast Track Teaching Programme, where she was involved with the national marketing of the programme for the DCSF as well as being an assessor and coach. She has written and delivered science training materials (for the south and midlands) for Higher Level Teaching Assistants and she is also an Assessor for Science Advanced Skills Teachers.
