Julie is the Associate Director for the PGCE (Primary) and, as part of this role, is the strategic lead on placing students in schools within the partnership.
She is Senior Tutor for Postgraduate Taught (PGT) programmes across the School of Education and, as a Personal Academic Tutor, supports students undertaking their first degree, Postgraduate or Masters degree professionally, pastorally, and academically.
Julie is the tutor for science and design and technology on the PGCE (Primary). She encourages student teachers to be advocates for STEM subjects in their placement and employing schools.
Julie leads and teaches on an UG module, Researching Learning, which all BSc Education and Education/Psychology students undertake in their first year.
She also supervises Masters students.
Julie Reynolds is a Senior Teaching Fellow within Southampton Education School at the University of Southampton.
Julie qualified as a primary teacher in 1988 with a BEd (Hons) in biological sciences and worked in Hampshire and Southampton schools for the next 19 years as a class teacher, subject lead and head of year. She began working at the University of Southampton in 2008, teaching modules on a FdA programme, Working with Children. In 2012, she was appointed as a Senior Teaching Fellow on the PGCE (Primary).
She has pursued her passion for teaching student teachers to teach through the recent completion of an MSc in Teacher Education at Oxford. Her final year action research project focused on supporting student teacher development by encouraging deep reflection through scaffolded video analysis.
Julie is privileged to have led groups of students abroad. She has taken PGCE students to Nakuru in Kenya for a number of years to give them an insight into another country’s education system and the opportunity to teach some of the most vulnerable children in areas of extreme poverty. In the summer of 2018, she accompanied a group of students to St. Paul’s school in Gorakhpur, India.
She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).
