Hi, I'm Vanessa Adogla Ben and I studied BSc Education within Southampton Education School at the University of Southampton.

A lot of the things we have learned I can actually apply into practice in my placements in primary schools, so it’s been really good.

Q: What have you enjoyed about studying at the University of Southampton?

I think the course being so new and fresh, it was nice to have first-hand experience of something, learning completely different things. A lot of the things we have learned I can actually apply and I am able to put into practice in my placements in primary schools, so it’s been really good.

Q: Have you been involved in any clubs and societies?

I was involved in the ACS – African Caribbean Society and the Christian Union which was really good.

Q: How did you find the support which you received?

We did receive a lot of support – from Dave Reynolds and Kiki Messiou especially. They were the people I would turn to if I was struggling or needed a little extra help or advice on things. They definitely gave a helping hand.

Q: Were there any particular modules which you enjoyed?

I think Social Justice and Inclusive Education because a lot of the things you learn link with special educational needs. It helps to prevent children being stereotyped or discriminated against in education. Once again, it links back to my placement and also in practice, where I could use that module to better myself.

Q: What are your plans for the future?

I will be starting a Primary PGCE in September.
