Professional development

The Mathematics and Science Learning Centre at University of Southampton provides professional development opportunities for teachers, lecturers and support staff throughout their career.  The Centre supports educators in identifying and implementing teaching and learning approaches based on the very best education research, evidence-based approaches and classroom practice.  We work in partnership with schools and colleges across the South of England to harness best practice and enhance impact on students' learning.

The Centre works closely with the Mathematics and Science Education (MaSE) Research Centre to translate the world class research in Southampton Education School to strategies that can be used in schools and colleges.

Formerly known as the Science Learning Centre South East the Mathematics and Science Learning Centre remains part of the National Science Learning Centre Network, as a Delivery Centre for the London and the South East Region and a Science Learning Partner, supporting Science Learning Partnerships in the South West Region.

MSLC offers a range of flexible support from scheduled professional development, action research programmes with the option to link to Masters-level qualifications, subject knowledge enhancement plus (SKE+) in mathematics, physics and chemistry, funded projects and bespoke, personalised support.

MSLC hosts the secondary science PGCE programme, physics SKE and laboratory sessions for primary science. During June and July it also hosts the Computer Science SKE that prepares applicants for the PGCE IT&CS and the School Direct programme.

We support outreach activity for the University and host a range of events.
