Inquiry into the role and peformance of OfSted

Published: 2 December 2010

The House of Commons Select Committee on Education recently began its inquiry into the role and performance of Ofsted, the schools inspectorate, and one of the expert witnesses called was Professor Tony Kelly.

Tony is well known nationally and internationally for his work on school improvement, policy impact and school choice issues, and has advised several governments on education and schooling.

House of Commons Select Committees check and report on the work of government. There is a Select Committee for each government department, examining spending, policy and administration. The committee itself decides on the nature and line of inquiry, and gathers written and oral evidence. Proceedings are broadcast live on television and findings are reported to the House of Commons, printed, and published on the website and in Hansard. The government usually has 60 days to reply to the committee's recommendations.
