Southampton Education School played host to an evening of Chinese food and dancing as part of celebrating the Chinese Lantern Festival.

The event, organised by Lecturer in International Education, Dr Zhen Li , was well attended by School staff, students and their families as well as people from local community.

Current Head of School, Professor Tony Kelly marked the start of the event. And the audience was invited to enjoy Chinese food before the wonderful performance, which comprised singing, instruments, Beijing opera and Chinese dancing.

The Lantern festival is an important traditional Chinese festival. As part of the support the School give to our international students, cultural events like this make a great contribution to the enhancement of our international students' experience and celebration of the diversity and internationalisation in the School.

A student who attended the event said afterwards: "I enjoyed the evening enormously; the opportunity to share diverse and rich cultures makes a big difference to my Southampton experience!" An International student also commented: "The evening makes me feel so proud of our Eastern culture, even though I'm not from China."
